The History of The Indicator
The Indicator is a significant historical landmark created by the Wanlockhead Youth Club, under the guidance of T.E.M. Landsborough and W. Stevenson. This project exemplifies the spirit of resourcefulness that was prevalent in the early 1940s, a time when making do was necessary.
Construction Details
The structure of the pillar is particularly noteworthy, as it is constructed from a section of large-bore water pipe filled with concrete. This innovative use of materials reflects the creativity and determination of the youth club members during that era. Atop the pillar, a bronze plaque is elegantly placed, featuring etched indicator markers that contribute to its historical significance.
Dedication
The Indicator was officially dedicated on the 21st of May 1944, marking its importance in the local community and preserving the memory of the efforts made by the Wanlockhead Youth Club. Such landmarks serve not only as reminders of the past but also as inspirations for future generations.
